Nicholas McCann aka nickydbc (b.1994, Warwick, England) explores the field of documentary through character-led narratives, archive material, vlogging and parody. His stories favour overlooked characters and parody comments on the mundane and absurd actualities of daily life. Eschewing traditional film structure and distribution formats, dbc currently focuses on producing self-published, short form content platformed online. A raconteur at heart, his instagram content is wide-ranging, from comedic on-the-ground reportages of the Berlin ‘art scene’, absurd impressions, to the user-submitted Quarantine Sex Stories series visualised with archive.
While his online persona is eccentric and comedic, his previous employment as a producer at the world’s leading news agency Reuters in London as well as a successful track record of commercial production in Berlin producing campaigns, short films, commercials, theatre shows, exhibitions and brand activations are testament to his intellectual capacity, production versatility and professionalism. He undertook his higher education at Goldsmiths with a 1st Class BA (Hons.) in Social and Political Sciences and later achieved a distinction in MA Documentary Filmmaking. He is now based In Toronto, previously living Berlin and London.
